What Is a Photofacial?

A photofacial is a non-invasive treatment that uses precise pulses of light energy to target pigment irregularities, redness, and visible signs of aging in the skin. The light gently heats the upper layers of skin, stimulating collagen production and promoting natural cell renewal. At Blueprint Aesthetics, we use Sciton’s BBL® and Moxi® systems: two state-of-the-art technologies that deliver unmatched results for skin clarity, tone, and texture:

  • Sciton BBL® (BroadBand Light): A powerful IPL (intense pulsed light) technology that treats brown spots, redness, and vascular lesions for a clearer, more even complexion.
  • Moxi® Laser: A gentle, non-ablative fractional laser that resurfaces the skin to improve texture, fine lines, and tone — perfect for early aging and ongoing maintenance.

These technologies represent some of the most advanced light-based platforms available for non-invasive skin rejuvenation.

Benefits of BBL & Moxi

BBL and Moxi are customizable treatments that address a wide range of concerns on the face, neck, chest, and hands. Patients choose them to:

  • Reduce sun damage and pigmentation
  • Improve redness and vascular irregularities
  • Refine fine lines and skin texture
  • Minimize enlarged pores
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Support long-term skin maintenance

These treatments not only correct visible damage but also contribute to healthier, more resilient skin when performed consistently.

Treatment Details and Recovery

Your photofacial begins with a detailed consultation to determine the right technology and settings for your skin. A topical numbing cream may be applied for comfort. During treatment, you’ll feel mild warmth or light snapping sensations as the energy targets your skin’s deeper layers. Most sessions last 30–60 minutes, depending on the area treated. After your session:

  • Mild redness or warmth may occur for a few hours.
  • With BBL, treated pigment may temporarily darken before flaking off naturally.
  • With Moxi, you may see mild roughness or “sandpaper” texture as the skin renews.

Downtime is typically minimal; patients often return to work or social activities the next day.

Results

Results can be seen within days to weeks, depending on your treatment type:

  • BBL: Noticeable brightening and tone correction after 1–2 sessions.
  • Moxi: Smoother texture and glowing skin within 7–10 days.

For long-term skin rejuvenation, a series of 3–4 treatments, spaced 4–6 weeks apart, is recommended. Many patients choose to schedule seasonal or quarterly maintenance treatments to preserve their results and protect against future damage.
